There are a few items to consider before installing this software:
1. This setup and installation guide assumes you have not installed software from another internet service provider(ISP). This does not include information services such as AOL, Compuserve, MSN, etc. These services have their own software, and the browser and dialer cannot be removed. This guide assumes that you do not have any Independent Browsers such as any version of Microsoft Internet Explorer , Microsoft Plus , or some versions of Netscape Navigator which include their own dialer installed on your computer.
2. If your computer is connected to a network through a local area network (LAN) or any form of networking, it is best to have the person who maintains that network help with the software setup or you can call Jong.com Support for assistance before going further with this install.
This section is the most important section to setup and connect to Jong.com.
You need to understand that double clicking on "The Internet" icon will do one of two things.
1. It will start the Internet Setup Wizard. This will only happen if you are opening The Internet icon for the first time, or
2. It will open the Microsoft Internet Explorer.
Now you'll need to step through the Internet Setup Wizard which, as mentioned above, may or may not be what you get when you double click on The Internet icon. You will know that you are in the Internet Setup Wizard if you see a "Welcome to Internet Setup" message.
But, if you do not get the
Internet Setup Wizard
, you will need to open it manually.
To open the Internet Setup Wizard manualy go to the
Start menu
, select
Run...
, then type
inetwiz
then click on
OK
. The
Internet Setup Wizard
will allow you to setup your computer to connect to the internet and will ask you a series of questions.
Use the following information to help you set the connection up properly:
1.
You'll want to select "Connect using my phone line".
2.
You'll want to select "I already have an account with a different service provider".
3.
You can select either
yes
or
no
when asked. Do you want to use
Microsoft Exchange
to send and receive Internet Mail.
Microsoft Exchange
is an email program that comes with
Windows 95
and, although it is convenient to install because it's included with
Windows 95
, it is not recommended for new internet users.
(Once you are connected to the internet you will be able to use your web browser to download a more suitable email program. )
After these questions are answered the wizard will most likely say that Windows will now install and files and drivers that you need to access the Internet and so on. You will need the Windows 95 diskettes or CD-ROM if it asks for them.
Next, the wizard will ask you to Type the name of your current Internet Service Provider. This is where you type in our name: Jong.com . Note that if you have any other internet accounts setup they will be shown if you click the downward pointing arrow at the end of the field you type in. After clicking Next it asks for the phone number you dial to connect to Jong.com . Type in the appropriate phone number according to what your local access number is to us. (Make sure you are typing in our phone number not your number.) Do not select Bring up terminal windows after dialing. The next screen will ask for you to enter your User name and Password and you should do so accordingly then click Next . The wizard now asks How do you obtain your Internet Protocol (IP) address and you should select My Internet Service Provider automatically assigns me one.
Now you will need to enter the IP address of Jong.com's DNS (Domain Name Service) server as shown in this picture. After entering the DNS server address you may or may not be asked for email information depending on whether you said yes or no to Do you want to use Microsoft Exchange to send and receive Internet Mail. Again, setting up and using Microsoft Exchange is a choice to make based on your internet experience.
